Welcome to the table
Golden Tree Bistro began with a simple wish: to recreate the food we missed most — the noodles pulled by hand at the corner shop back home, the dumplings folded around a kitchen table, the trotters braising low and slow until the whole house smelled of soy and star anise.
We've gathered those dishes from across Asia and given them a home here in Ultimo. Some are faithful to the originals; others borrow a little from everywhere. All of them are made the way we'd cook for our own family — generously, and from scratch.
Pull up a chair. You've found us.
What's in a name
松下问童子,言师采药去。
只在此山中,云深不知处。
"Beneath the pines I asked the boy; he said his master had gone gathering herbs. He is somewhere on this mountain — but the clouds are so deep, I cannot tell where."
Our name is borrowed from a thousand-year-old poem by the Tang poet Jia Dao. 云深不知处 — "deep in the clouds, its whereabouts unknown" — captures the feeling of a place worth seeking out: a hidden table, glowing gold, that rewards anyone who finds it. 金小馆, our little golden bistro, is exactly that.
What we believe
Dough, broths, chilli oils and sauces — prepared in-house, every day, no shortcuts.
Real wok fire, proper spice and the patience that slow braising demands.
We serve every guest the way we'd feed our own family — warmly, and in good measure.
Come find us
